119,000 on the truck, has new plugs but not new coils, maintained at dealership before I bought it a couple months ago from its only other owner. After pulling our camper two different times and one time pulling a small trailer, when I get home and put it in reverse to park camper or trailer it suddenly runs very rough with a good deal of clatter. After backing in I shut the truck off to unhook or unload. When I start it back up it runs good again. Without a trailer I pull in the driveway put it in park and shut it off so don't notice any problem. I have made stops with the camper and the trailer but did not stop and back up just stop put it in park and shut it off put gas in or run in to get something (it was booze, I ran it to get booze) and it starts back up and runs fine. Maybe a little ticking noise in the parking lots before shut down. Please help with thoughts, ideas, answers or smart alecky comments or I may be forced to run in to get something again. Thank you.
Unfortunately, with that diesel like clatter and ticking noises, odds are very likely you are needing a timing job and hopefully just that unless you’ve let these noises marinate for a good while. In that case, all bets are off as to how much engine wear has taken place. When the chain tensioners disintegrate, oil flow to the heads (among other areas) obviously suffers.
It seems like you have an F250. There is plenty of info in the 04-08 F150 subforum about 3V Triton issues. No need to coop yourself in a lower traffic subforum-you would have had answers quite quickly in the other subforum.
