Poor Running 2003 F250

I have been reading many of the comments posted and am unsure whether my issues can be improved by a reflash.

My F250 6.0 L will shake rattle and role 4 times out of 5 upon engine restart. I am worried the EPA is going to fine me for the amount of smoke I am putting out. This usually occurs after I try to restart after 30 minutes to an hour of being turned off. I had the 10/9 reflash at the insistance of the dealership but that did not help.

An other issue is upon initial cold start, my turbo charger osscilates (cyclical pitch up and down) while truck is under low load (peddle depression), most pronouced @1700-1900 RPM range, usually but not limted to 3rd - 4th gear, but can be heard at highway speeds as well. Occasionally the occilation is so pronouced it effects the rpm of the engine and has very poor excelleration. What is this? Dealership Service Manager stated his Excursion does the same thing and no fix has been found? I have not driven another 2003 or 2004 F250 that has the same problem.

I would at least see if the lates reflash has been done, the issues it creates don't sound as bad as the issues you got now....

Thanks for the reply emtabmm and 25 carolina.

emtabmm: Have you ever heard of the oscillating turbo before? Can it be related to anything other than the computer and programming, some other sensor, or some type of default in the turbo. I have knowledge of turbo charged aircraft engines which have an automatic wastegate to prevent "overboost". It sounds like the turbo is releaving itself of pressure when it first starts, (engine relative cold) but is occasionally present after driving quiet some time? I may be way off as I do not know how the turbo is mechanically designed or designed to perform? What can you share with me?

25 carolina: Can you clarify which of the two problems I had that you experienced or was it both? Could you share with me the process you went thru to secure FORD buyng back the truck.

i had the first problem, after the truck was at operating temp, when i went to restart apprx. 15-90 mins later the engine would shake ,blow black smoke and hesitate going into gear.it all lasted about 15 seconds before it all cleared up, then the truck was fine until you shut down and restarted (within a cool down time frame)after 5 times to the dealership in new jersey i filed the lemon law papers and told my service manager that i did this. within 2 days of the last time the truck went in for this problem he called me and said ford will buyback the truck. i bought the truck 5/1/03 it had a build date of 3/03, on 8/26/03 ford notified me of the buyback and i ordered my new truck on the same date,9/29/03 my 04 came in very smooth dealership i had, and very professional .

Thank you for the feedback. Did filing the lemon law papers involve a lawyer? What expense could I expect?

I had October Flash 12/11. I questioned warranty manager on injector and/or "o" ring problem. He said it did not effect my truck as they checked the VIN # and it is not one of the trucks effected. Do they really have this down that closely? Should I be checking my oil levels or trust what I'm told? Is there any truth to the FLASHES just being a patch for the injector problems? My engine much louder but rough idle on restart seems to be gone. Did not help oscillating turbo when engine cold.

Thanks.. 10/9 refresh seemed to fix my problem with rough restart. I continue to have problem with an oscillating turbo charger and engine rpm's. This is most pronouced when cold, low engine load, low gears. Problem minimizes as engine warms up but is still present under certain driving conditions. Engine also has a "howl" not associated with the "whistle" or "whine" of the turbo charger. Any thoughts?

ODOMETER reading at time of problem is critical.
Go to this thread, read completely…. and post.
In addition, please read more instructions, bottom of first page, posted by Tim L
Tell as many as you can about this thread.
The simpler the writing (posting) of “problem/odometer” reading………….the easier it will be to collate. Do not need many words. I must reduce all the date into a usable format; extra words will take more time to complete.

Thanks
