There's a T98 posted for sale in the for sale/wanted thread at the top of the page. He didn't say what year it is but it's worth a call. The early version for 48-52 trucks isn't easy to find.
I found a tranny from a 49 f6 but without the bell housing. Can I use mine from the t9 box?
The front half that attaches to the back of the engine is fine, the back half that mates the trans to the clutch cover is unique to the T98. The back half of the bell from your T9 will not work.
I could be wrong, but I believe I read, years ago, the t9 hogshead works with the T98 after some machining to open up the bearing retainer bore, or turn down t98 bearing retainer. Sure it was turning down the bearing retainer.
I've read that. I like your idea of turning the input flange down as opposed to boring the bell housing.I think is only 1/8" difference. Still need the tranny.
I finally crawled under my 50 F2 today and found my 4 speed is not a T9. It is a T59
and I can't find any information on it. If I stay with it I will need a new rear seal at least. What synchronized tranny will interchange with this T59
