I borrowed my uncle's 2001 F350 Powerstroke this weekend while my 99 F350 V10 was in the shop. I haven't spent a lot of time around the diesel's, but I need some help with an indicator light that is now lit up on his dash. The light shows a fuel pump with three drops of fuel next to it. When I look in his owner's manual I see that it shows a different style indicator for the fuel cap that is in the same place as the one that I am looking at.
After reading in the owner's manual, I have taken the fuel cap off and on many times to make sure that it is on properly. I also washed the truck paying special attention to the fuel cap area to make sure that any spilled diesel was washed away.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong and/or what I need to do to cancel this indicator light?? I hate to take the truck back to my uncle with the light on.
It is not a fuel cap light, it is probably a "water in fuel" indicator light. If you did not put any fuel in the truck, just tell your uncle the light is on and he should know how to drain the bowl. If you did put fuel in tell him that and where you got the fuel. The water needs to be drained ASAP.
Can you tell me how to drain the water or will it tell me in the owner's manual??? I would like to take care of it before I take it back to my uncle this evening.
consult the owners manual, it is very descriptive. this isn't something that happened overnight it takes a while to get to this condition unless you get a BAD tank of fuel.
matt0588, thanks for the information... I was able to find the fuel drain valve info in the owner's manual and drained the filter. Light went off and all is well!!!
Once again, I must express to you guys how much I appreciate this site. I learn something everytime I visit.
