I have a 2013 ford f250 6.7 210,000 miles. I’d like opinions on the S & S Diesel CP4 to DCR pump conversion? Ive heard horror stories about the CP4 failures. Is the conversion a DYI? Is it worth the 2 grand plus installation cost? Thanks in advance
My 2016 truck is going in for a new turbo today and while it's apart having the DCR conversion done. Nothing wrong with my CP4 "but" why not? I don't get rid of my trucks for a new smelling truck and at 70k miles it should be around for awhile.
For me, the DCR is simply peace-of-mind. No more worries about whether the CP4 decides to go south, especially when I'm 20 miles into the boonies at the ranch property. Nor, having to replace the entire fuel system should the DCR decide to fail.
I had planned to install the SPE DPK that I purchased long ago, but no need for it now. I'll be putting that up for sale in the forum marketplace soon.

Outside of timing the crank and fan shroud removal it looks to be the same as a DPK (minus the new lines) install for the most part.

Couldn't agree more since you're already there with the intake off and the pump right there easily accessible.

I'm just a shade tree mechanic and jack of all trades. I.installed my S&S kit last year, the disaster prevention kit, myself after watching videos and taking notes.
If my pump goes, i will probably have my buddy's shop, where I take my stuff, install a DCR. I'd probably take off and want to be involved as I'm learning as I go.
If you're not going to have a disaster kit installed, 400 dollars, and you're keeping your truck, IMO, the DCR is well worth it because with the DCR, there's no longer a worry about the high pressure pump going out and taking everything else on the system with it.
S&S had one of their many test trucks come in with water laden fuel, which rusted the metal cans of the aftermarket fuel pump the truck had and the DCR took it and kept pumping...

most folks spend the 400 for an s&s DPK and install it themselves . Taking the position if the pump fails with the DPK the rest of the system is protected..and upon cp4 failure…they buy the dcr.

Interesting how SnS marketed the DPK as the holy grail prior to the DCR being released. In their latest video - while their pump is sitting on the bench next to Bosch's CP4 that fella says that the crank can still lock up and run the valves into the top of the pistons.
Just seems to make more sense to go with the DCR rather than the DPK unless I am missing something. From your earlier post above it appears you have had the DCR installed? If so how long have you had it? What differences have you noticed and how do you like it?
I've had the DCR for almost a month now, and no issues at all. Other than the pump being a little quieter than the CP4, no difference in pressure performance that I can tell. If someone snuck a DCR under my hood without telling me, I would've never known it was replaced.
I didn't realize that the cam shaft was lubricated like it is (and cam surface floats on oil, like an engine crank or piston rod bearing), without watching that video. That's terrific, means no metal-to-metal contact under operation, so the pump should last forever (compared to the bucket and cam design of the CP4, which almost seems primitive in comparison).
