Thanks for the "asphault update" Jimmy. Perhaps you can discuss asphault temperatures in a more scientific manner, such as molecular structure and ionic transfer rates and how they apply to heat transfer and tire wear as well as the emittance of oxygen molecules and their ability speed up as they become hotter and how quickle an egg can fry on your intake as a result of the increased tempurature. Aslo, a suggestion of different types of breads that can be toasted to best go allong with the fried eggs and if we should use whole milk butter or margarine

Well, as far as tire wear you will suffer more wear while driving on this 'Hotter than Hades' asphault, however you will attain beter grip from your tires. Softer tires will not suffer much more than normal wear due to the fact that a softer tire typically heats up more under normal load, and will reach closer their critical temperature on normal asphault than a harder, more normal tire.

Yes, higher speed rated tires are developed to withstand higher tempuratures without premature breakdown, whereas lower speed rated tires, which aren't meant for high speeds which results in higher tempuratures, cannot withstand the higher asphault tempuratures as well and can begin to "shred" off rubber particles, such as an eraser does with paper.

However, since this discussion has gone way the course of the origional thread.....actually, what was the original thread, oil or somethine right? I'm lost. "Secretary, please bring me a large cup of coffe, black, please. thank you"

~gives Tom some black coffee straight from the pot~

Ok guys, now that we're back on task...

Oil is good. It lubricates and stuff right? Just put 11 or 12 quarts in, that way you'll get all the lubrication you'll ever need. HECK!! You could wait 20K before the next change! God I'm a genuis.

I usually fill mine until it starts spilling out of the oil fill hole in the valve covers and drips all over the motor. Then I close the cap and start the truck up and let it get nice and hot before I drive it. All that extra oil on my motor creates an awsome smoke screen so that I can run turnpike booths without paying and nobody can see me.

hhm....but umm..doesn't all the burnt oil cost mor than the tolls? Or is that not the point? And what WOULD happen if you severely overfilled the crankcase with oil, say put in 9 quarts or some such?

Kill your motor, that's what. It's better to run low than to overfill, any day of the week. Overfilling can blow all kinds of gaskets...too much pressure.
