Ecu swaps?

Hey guys I have a 94 f350 crew cab long bed with a bad ecu now the one in my truck is a 4F and those are like 700 bucks however the 3F is only 250 is it possible to swap the two of them? Or is there a reason behind the difference if so what are they?

that’s my question I can find the 3f for a 460 e4od trans but idk what the difference is. From what I’ve gathered the 3f and 4f designation is just for year and as long as everything else matches it should swap out.

3F implies the engineering number is designed for a 1993 model year vehicle. Ford changed from the older Push-Start ignition (1993 and older) to Computer Controlled Dwell (CCD) ignition on 1994 and up trucks. The answer is no, most likely not compatible.

You need same hardware code to be swap compatible.
if speed density, it’s probably SD-48E I think.

Any EFI-SD48E will work.
Ebay is most expensive, try find one locally or from parts truck.

Looks like you have newer capacitors, one looks like it may have leaked again or the board was not cleaned properly.

What is the 3F vs 4F designation and where is it on the EEC-IV?

FWIW, there are some places that repair the ECM/PCM, there are a couple listed on FB Marketplace, check in your area.

There is one on the west coast, but it won't link from here.

5F (assume F5 is the beginning of the engineering number) will work since it is designed to work with the CCD ignition already in your truck. The side note is 1995 and up PCMs also have the transmission (E4OD) solenoid protection diodes inside. 1994 and down those protection diodes are inside the transmission. No harm in double diodes in the circuit. Not so good to use an earlier PCM on a 1995 and up truck for that reason as well as not compatible with the CCD ignition.
