I would love to know the answer.
My 16 f550 work truck does it.
My 12 f550 work truck does not
My 19 f450 personal truck does it sometimes
My first guess is California certified clean idle.
My truck has only done it one time because I don't let it idle long, but if IIRC, I was working on the plow and didn't want to keep shutting it on/off, when the idle jumped up and I looked at my iDash and she was in regen. Only time I've seen it... but I don't work my truck like yours do Bart.
Prior to that, never knew about that...

Now that I think back, my 99 7.3 would idle up when it was cold out. It had a 3.5" downpipe to a 5" back exhaust with a punch baffle muffler. You could really hear the turbo spool. It sounded like an F-16 warming up on the tarmac.

I asked Aaron today when I was there and he confirmed it was indeed due to emissions engaging while warming up.
Interesting... I wonder where EGT2 temp was at...7
EGT1 is pretty close to the exhaust port,
EGT2 is the CAT at the begining of the emission section of the tail pipe
EGT3 is the DPF
EGT4 is just after the SCR
So I always expect 3 &4 to get hotter during regen.

Thanks... the EGTs for mine will be different since fuel is injected on the exhaust stroke and not in the DPF itself like the 23s plus. I'd expect your EGT2 temp is lower than mine during the short regens the new trucks have.
During my recent regen, EGT2, which is usually always the hottest, was 1200 deg. EGT 4 was at 1100s.
