I hauled a 16,000 lbs GN horse trailer up to Boise and got 10 mpg. I hauled an empty 6,000 lbs GN horse trailer home. Same route and got 10.5 mpg 10,000 lbs lighter gave me 1/2 mpg better fuel mileage
Another trip I hauled a 5000 lbs empty dump trailer out to a distant quarry and returned home with 8,000 lbs of flagstone in the trailer, making my weight 13,000 lbs. Again I lost 1/2 mpg of fuel for 8,000 lbs added weight.
It's not the weight, But rather the drag.
Hello. New to the forum. We bought a 2026 F350 Super Duty 6.7L Diesel Dually to pull a 40' 12000 lbs (unloaded) fifth wheel trailer. I have 37 miles on her but am driving about 240 miles on Sunday to break her in (and me) but am NOT pulling the trailer. (we're actually driving to do our trailer walk thru). I bought 2, 2.5 gallon jugs of Blue DEF off Amazon for $42.81. Sounds like a gallon of DEF for every Full Tank of fuel.
Several questions: 1) Is that a good brand? 2) Good price? I've owned diesel previously and was a diesel mechanic in the U.S. Coast Guard but it's been about 30 years and diesel engines have changed! I also bought some Biobor 'cause I know algae can grow in the tanks.
Any comments are welcome!
Thanks,
TomM
dont bother filling the def until it gets down the less than 200 miles to empty then do a complete fill. Less confusion for the system.
Walmart supertech or the truck stop pumps for def are just fine and cheaper.
As far as algae, it should be a non-issue if you are using the truck fairly often.
When empty little use of def. When towing more use.
