VIN Decoding

Hi all,

New member here. I just grabbed this yesterday for $1,000. I was told it is a 1961 F250 4x4 and that’s what matches the old registrations in the glovebox going back decades. But, I just tried decoding the VIN on fordidentification ad it’s saying F100 4x4. I suppose the cab and or hood could be from another vehicle but it looks all original to me. Odd that the color code of D doesn’t match any of the codes on that site as well.

Engine could be the 292 wide lock v8 but I’m unsure and the guy who sold it didn’t know anything. The bed is from an F100 and isn’t bolted on. It’s also more narrow than the cab (not sure if that’s an indicator of F250 or no).

any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Welcome to FTE. Looks like a Fe motor to me. The bed is what they call a wrong bed. Which was common back then.
The experts will be along.

Welcome to FTE Etch!! Great looking truck! Your VIN starts with F11 which IS an F100 4x4, however, your axles are 8 lugs suggesting an F250, the cab and doors could've been swapped, and judging by the different colors it would be a good guess.. best place to start is to find the VIN on the frame, usually on pass side just front of the cab... it could be an older cab onto newer 3/4 frame... hard to tell without seeing frame.
I like it regardless! And yes, FE motor, radiator looks like my 63

The warranty plate matches the '61 theory, up to a point.

But it's not an F100 and that engine is an FE, not a "Y block". (they are a litte wide, but it's Y block....not "wide block")

Do the old registrations match the warranty plate?

Check the frame for a VIN.

Thx for the info

Found the fe answer… appreciate the direction.

ord FE engine is a medium block V8 engine produced by the Ford Motor Company and used in vehicles sold in the North American market between 1958 and 1976. The FE, derived from 'Ford-Edsel',[1]was introduced just four years into the short-lived Ford Y-block engine, which American cars and trucks were outgrowing. It was designed with room to be significantly expanded, and manufactured both as a top-oiler and side-oiler, and in displacements between 332 cu in (5.4 L) and 428 cu in (7.0 L).

Nice score! As others have said, the Warranty tag indicates 61 F100 4WD built in November 1960. Here is a Decoder for that... https://www.fordification.info/tech/vin61-62.htm
The grille is from a 62... Cab is correct for 61-62. Also 63 but the Warranty tag in 63 was on the door and not the glovebox. Great project.
