Hi Folks...i have an 89 xl....drivers side window is stuck about 2" down...window crank spins, but no window movement. took the door panel off, i'm not sure of the proper names of everything, but it appears that the gear box that runs the window up and down has a stripped out grear...i assume that it's the grear on the crank spindle, if it was a worn out spot on the large gear, i figure it would catch when i manipulated the window up or down a bit, and it didn't...anyway, this assembly appears to be rivited in...does anybody have any experience with this ?
Are they power windows? From the way you described it, it sounds like you have manual windows, but just checking. If they are power, I could probably help you, but I don't have any experience with the manuals.
I have the same problem, except mine are power and they dont work, the passenger motor wines while the driver does nothing.
also any trans info on my 1990 B 2 seems sluggish between gears its automatic any response will be appreciated.
Correct me if I am wrong here guys but I think on the power windows there is a plastic piece that goes from the motor to the window crank. I believe these are not a dealer item now so a trip to the salvage yard may be in your best interest. Be prepared to buy the entire motor with it though as they usually do not like to sell them separate. As far as the one that does not make a noise at all use your test light to check for voltage at the switch and then unplug connector from motor and check there. Remember you will have to activate the switch while checking for voltage. Hope this helps. Good luck.
My power window is also acting up - It rolls down like normal, but the motor just whines when I need to raise it. I can help it up by pushing/pulling manualy but it's difficult. I guess I'm in for a trip to the salvage yard...
I have the same problem with my Father-inlaws bronco. Passenger window goes down, but does not come back up. I spent some time tearing the door apart, but I still am not sure what the problem is. After I opened the window motor, it appears that the barings that move with the gear have gone bad, the rubber that surrounds them has degraded and ripped apart over the years. I adjusted the position of the rubber covers and put the motor back together, along with the door. The window "kind of" works now, but not that great. I'm not sure if I need a new motor for the window, or if there is some other part that needs replaced that I haven't seen yet.
I got the motor only for my 88 from JC Whitney for about $70, it has worked fine, but it did take a little customizing to make if fit the rest of the bracket. No problems for over a year, but now both windows are dead, which seems to be a power problem somewhere.
I had an '82 Mustang that had the same problem. I chiseled (sp?) the rivets off to get the crank assembly out. I got another one from a junkyard and had to use short bolts to put it in. Worked like a charm. You can do the same with your BII.
I have an '89 BII with power windows and had to take the assembly out to replace the gear that works the arm. This time I drilled out the rivets.
You could do it either way but drilling was much more easier than using a chisel.
