Yes, like a huge vacuum. I ordered a BAK rollup cover from Amazon, The cover was delivered yesterday, box 1 of 2. Could not find box two. Turns out it was shipped under a second tracking number. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday, state of preparing for delivery. That was @ 7:28 AM. Never out for delivery. Today, same thing, says it will be delivered between 3:45 and 5:45 PM, but is still in preparing for delivery status, not on a truck. I chatted with Amazon to find out what is going on, and got the shoulder shrug, however, because of this, they refunded $550 plus tax. SO right now I have an 88 pound cover and hardware, but no rails. Doesn't do me any good without the rails.
However, I just found out Amazon is shipping me another one. Should arrive on Monday. Will see.
Agreed. UPS tracking system sooks. Very inaccurate. More than once their tracking status showed a delivery date despite the fact that the package had not been picked up yet (shipper had generated label). Then the delivery date bounces around (forward and back) but the package does not show any movement in the details. Once I found a missed delivery notice stuck to my door. I was home all day and if the UPS guy had rung the bell, I would have heard it. I called the 800 number and was told someone would call me back. I didn't have much hope of that happening but, within the promised time frame, I got a call from the local UPS sorting center. My package was never loaded on the truck, so the driver tried to cover it up in the system by claiming a missed delivery. The package did not require a delivery signature and showed up on my doorstep the next day.
Had crap like that happen with Fed-up-ex. Came to deliver a chiller for my laser, left note on door, NEVER rang the bell. Waited outside the next day as that was the promised redelivery, never showed, then get a message saying no one home. BULL, driver drove right by the house and kept going hours earlier. I saw the truck go by! After a Biotch fest on the phone they agreed to deliver it Saturday. I had to go somewhere but my wife was home, when they delivered it the package looked as if it were dropped off the dock and kicked around. Turned out it WAS dropped off the dock. The capacitor had busted loose. Thankfully I pulled the cover and did a full inspection, or it would have shorted out the moment I turned it on. Thankfully its been 100% reliable and doing a good job keeping the laser cool.
I've had good luck with UPS and their tracking. The only issue I had was clearly the driver - had a windshield being delivered, and it was not our usual driver. He couldn't find our house (ok, the number was off by 2) but still marked it as delivered when his shift was done. Since the tracking showed it "delivered", I looked everywhere around the property and up and down the street - no windshield. The next day our regular driver was back. He found the box still on the truck and knew exactly where it was supposed to go. It was promptly delivered.
As I was 10 minutes from the house last night, I checked tracking out of curiosity. Still stated preparing, not out for delivery. I pull in the drive and there it is, delivered, checked the app, now it says out for delivery and delivered. However, as expected, the rails were damaged. The front ind of the right rail was bent at a 45, the rear end of the left rail bent at 60. Amazon has shipped a replacement out, should see it Tuesday, hopefully undamaged, and if not, will swap it out with this one. This one works OK, but the rails are missing paint in places, and there is some slop in the right rails locking mechanism. The joint between the header panel and the rest of the cover binds a bit too and that was in the first box delivered. If no one minds the paint chips and wants a decent expensive cover I may sell it. Probably for $900, I think it is worth it.
