I have a 1990 4x4 5.0 with the E40D, I have noticed sometimes lately that on a cold start it does not idle up for the warm up cycle. Could this be a sign that I am having ecm problems? As far as I know it has never been replaced and the truck had sat for 10 years before I got it.

more likely a sign that you have a sticky iac or plugged air filter
I know for sure its not the air filter its new, have to check on the iac. The truck is not being drove right now just move in and out of the shop, slowly doing body work when time allows.
check the resistance values of your engine temp sensor

Sensor & Actuator Testing Values
Resistance (Ohms) is measured with the device DISconnected (so the key doesn't need to be ON). Voltage is measured with the circuit complete & key in RUN, as during normal operation. Back-probe the connector, or pierce-probe the wires.
