Thanks so much for replying to my question, it has a 10 bolt cover on the back side of the differential housing... if I removed the rear cover the inners will come out from the back side. Not sure if this helps ? Not sure how to measure up the bolt pattern that you are speaking of? Can you advise?

Hello: there is no axle tag on the rear diff cover , there probably was at one time? The only numbers that I can find are the ones that I had provided in my original post. I sure wish the tag was still there. Not sure but there is a companion flange and the rear pinion yoke to make up the pinion yoke, I did count the splines on the companion flange which has 30? not sure if this helps to identify any further?
Good Morning: I have just measured up the axle bolt pattern, the axles in this differential are a 5 bolt on 4 1/4 inch spacing. Does this help to identify it further.? I have been looking at the differential cover and wondering if there is a way to identify it by this or does this just help to identify possible ring gear size.?
what vehicles would of used a 8.7 axle then if that is what it is? I think the pinion nut is 3/4 by 20 ? I thought it might of been a 7.5 or a 8.8..... the differential gaskets look different from each other. Do you happen to know anything more about the 8.7 axle then? thanks
8.7 was only used for a few years, 75 to 78 if i remember correctly. it was basically the test bed for the 8.8 axle. they were used in the granada that i know of. \probably also the 6 cylinder LTD's too
the brake shoes on this axle are 10 inch by 2 1/2 inch, not sure if this gives any more needed informatiom? I would also like to find out the pinion nut torque on this axle as I need to replace the pinion seal in it.... ?
