I am getting a pretty solid “clunk” feeling coming from the rear-end when my 2007 F-150 accelerates from a complete stop, then it goes away. It has the 3.55 axle ratio limited slip and it’s 2WD. The differential fluid service was done probably 10k miles ago. Truck has 185,700 miles right now on it. Any ideas what this could be or where to start? I saw other guys on the forum saying to grease the slip yoke. How much should I pay a Ford dealer to do this?
I personally would say, nothing since I would do it myself (he says knowing full well it needs to be done on his own truck.... just no time yet).
If you don't have the ability to do it, I would guess you are going to pay for at least 1hr of labor & "materials" such as while lithium grease.
This could run you as little as $125 to possibly $250 but really could vary depending on your local shop's labor rates.
Keep in mind it could also be your driveshaft.
Mine is 4x4 with a 2-section shaft but I think the 4x2 has the same type of shaft.
These shafts are NOT serviceable & meant to be tossed when the joints go bad.
Why do I mention this?
I would be surprised if the dealer / shop didn't suggest you replace the shaft.
