I have a 1992 f150 with a 351w and a E4OD trans. Currently, if the truck is ice cold and has not run at all that day, it works perfectly fine, however, I feel like if there is ANY kind of temperature in the vehicle when I try to drive it for the second time that day, it has a transmission issue every time. like if the truck sits for 8 hours its fine, but any less than that it has its transmission issue (I got finished a 5 hour shift where the truck was not touched but it still had issues, but I've done 8 hour shifts and it seems fine).
What ends up happening is the truck will not lock up the converter at all, its always driving with an open converter no matter the speed, and when it shifts is shifts UNGODLY violently. I pulled the codes because it would throw a light but the only things is came up with is Throttle position sensor codes, and an lean bank 1 code, (codes 122,123,172 to be exact) but none of those make sense to me why it would be doing anything to the transmission/converter.
End of the day I feel like it is a sensor issue that loses itself whenever there's any amount of temperature in the engine/trans, any help or advice is appreciated.
The ECU looks at the TPS sensor to determine the shift points. If your TPS is borked, the ECU won't tell the trans to shift. Fix the TPS issue.
And then fix your failing fuel pump that's causing the lean codes.
