First off. Thanks for putting together such a great forum. The fact that I get 389 hits on "seat" in the subject line of the bumpside forum tells me I'm in the right place.
But geez that's a lot to go through.
I have a half decent seat with some mouse damage on the drivers side. I'm not worried about being original but I do want it to look good.
Comfortable is good, but I don't want to give up the ability to carry a 3rd person.
Not afraid to fab and love a good challenge.
The 3 suggestions I've seen so far I like are:
1) Re-foam
2) 2004 bench
3) Dentside seat.
Anybody else got any quick recommendations based on what I mention above.
Thanks again.
Any seat from like 60's - 96 will fit, you just need your original mounts. See my build thread for my seats. I've done 2. Recently I've been seeing super duty rear seats work as well from the early 2000's. Same deal, you have to use your mounts and drill a hole.
I'm with you on the bench seat. Bucks in a single cab are just dumb. Actually, I'm a proponent of bench seats and no console in any vehicle. My 2012 Silverado I intentionally ditched the center console for a flip down center seat. Way more room and space.
I have a dentside seat in my 72 f250. I like the seat and bench seats in general. But, the dentside seat seams bigger than the bump seats. It does bolt straight i though. My 70 f250 has the original seat in it and seams like it fits the truck better. The comparison isnt totally even since the bump seat is a bit broken down and in need of a full rebuild.
Installed rear leather seat out of a 2016 Ford F250, bought it for $250. Seat is practically brand new as most people rarely use the rear seats. Quite a bit of modification to the mounting bracket, but not too difficult. Love having a cup holder and storage under the seat.
I have a set of 2002 60/40 seats I plan on using in my personal truck as they have the "built in" seat belts, flip up center console with the third "buddy seat" option and they came from a truck I used to drive so I know how comfortable they were. I know they are a bit too modern looking for some but that's why they will go in my truck and not one I'm building to sell. Brackets will have to be built to make them fit and work.
I considered all the same options. Getting a seat redone was 6-8 months, $1000 for just vinyl.
DIY, foam and a cover is still around $600 and you have an outdated uncomfortable seat. Could by a junkyard 80's 90's bench seat, re-foam, cover for the same.
I bought a brand new seat of a modern construction, exactly the color and style/look/features I wanted. Sold the old seat and recouped some cost. Worth the difference in cost to me. YRMV.

One thing to check, is the width of the seats. I was going to use seats from a 97 in my 67 cab. But, the 97 cab must be narrower than my 67, there would be about a 4 inch gap between the seats to place them in the correct spot. So, ditched that idea, and went with early 90's seats, that bolted right in. Plus, I would have had to make a mount for the 97 seats.
