Battery replacement procedures
Not my daily but my 2017 F350 6.7, which is always on a maintainer, did not want to crank today even though maintainer was showing green.
Put a 6 amp charger on and only putting about 2 Amps in either battery … has anyone else had their batteries go that quick? Been 2-3 weeks since I last used it.
The batteries are the OEM s so I be owed nothing, just wanting to make sure that nothing else has happened.
Guess it ll be a trip to tire/battery store tomorrow to get 2 new batteries. Looks like I ll change them myself since that ll be as easy as jumping truck and trying to get to shop.
Separate question, to keep some power in ECM and vehicle when changing have some of you guys just changed one battery at a time? Know I ll have to wrap positive cable so it doesn’t touch anything since it s a parallel system but curious what others have done.
thx

Makes 1 more question pop in my head … doesn’t matter if you change passenger or driver first while putting in 2 new ones does it …?
Pretty obvious it’s my first dual battery (parallel) vehicle 😁

Speakerfritz …. Good clarification ; I ll leave trickle charger on the one I m changing last; hopefully I can get them both thrown in within 10 minutes or so. I ll do the hold down clamps after they re both installed and hooked up so will only have minimal time with trickle charger on and one battery pulled 👍
Just waiting for my 6 year old factory batteries to go. Surely they won't live forever. When they go, I'm going to get two new Walmart AGM batteries.

Did this on a friend's Lexus. Battery was very low, her husband was at work, she insisted if we unhooked the battery the dealer had to reset "something". Hooked a garage battery via jumper cables to the car, unhooked the battery (wrapped the positive cable), she ran to autozone to get the battery swapped, then we installed the new battery. Car was perfect, last time she said the dealer charged them for the reset. This is my new procedure, dual battery or not since modern cars have so many electronics.
I just did the batteries in my '17 6.7 about 2 weeks ago. Based on what I found on here, I replaced each battery one at a time. Then I let the truck sit for 12 hours for the truck to reset the battery control module. Maybe that part is hokus pocus but I did it anyway. I switched to AGM batteries so I updated the battery type in forscan. All has been will since then.
When I had my batteries changed, they did one at a time, and still had to use their scan tool to reset the battery module.
They didn't charge me any extra, battery install was free with the battery purchase, so no issue for me.

Swapped in some AGMs into my 2018. No resetting anything and no Forscan changes needed.
