Slight “thud” while driving..converter locking-unlocking?
What’s up everyone, long time Ford owner. I’ve got a ‘16 Sport 5.0 that my son drives while away for college so I picked up a ‘17 5.0 Fx4 with 60k miles for myself. I’ve noticed when cruising around 50 mph and in 6 gear I feel a slight kinda thud and notice the rpm’s go up a few hundred and then another slight thud and the rpm’s drop down a few hundred. It’ll do this a couple time while cruising and it seems to only do it while maintaining about 45-50 mph. On the highway doing 65+ everything seems fine. Could this be a the converter going bad, locking and unlocking? Anyway to check the converter with FORScan? I know for sure my ‘16 sport doesn’t do this.
Torque converter issues are no at all common with the 6 speed. I'd be more apt to suspect your MAP sensors, throttle position sensor, or even spark plugs if you are showing codes for a miss fire.
On the other hand, at 60k miles, it's time to service it. I would do the full 100k mile service now.

I just bought it this past Friday from a very reputable dealership. It had a full inspection/service done and shows no codes. I’ve also checked for codes myself using FORScan and found nothing. It runs smooth other than this occasional thud I feel and I only feel it in 5th or 6th gear, my wife noticed it too. This one is 4x4 whereas my ‘16 is not. Could it be I’m feeling the extra moving parts from it being 4x4? I’m going to drive it for a few days and check it with FORScan again and see if anything pops up. I’ve got a 3 month/4000mi. B to B warranty on it from the dealership I bought it from so I may take it back and have it checked out.
My '15 4x4 doesn't thud. Yours looks like it may have a leveling kit, and that someone kept their bigger wheels and tires. Check for any lose bolts underneath, and check to se that all the lug nuts are properly torqued.
Also check that the wheels have the proper acorn type taper on them. If it has aftermarket lugs and they have the incorrect taper/seat, the wheels will move slightly all the time, eventually damaging the lug holes.
