DH3221 is the part number that motorcraft USED to make brass. They are aluminum new under a new part number, and hard to find old ones. I would search ebay for the numnber, might find NOS

the rotor appears to be still brass as of march this year

those *******s. Seriously tho, this type of lie and poor quality is just BS And unacceptable, they should have called it an explicitly "value" part with a low cost. They know brass last longeer and less trucks with these on the road, so less return customers. Its also cheaper to make

Try getting a steel gear for a distributor or getting the correct gear on a repo distributor.

What is supposed to be & actual is a nightmare.

Well, aluminum does conduct electricity better than brass.

Just saying.

Negligible, especially considering the benefits of brass. Companies like aluminum because it's cheap.

Yes, but it still does.

Everyone blames the company for being cheap but it's not the company that is trying to make more money. They are just providing a product that the people will buy. There is a reason why Amazon makes so much money. It's because most of the people want cheap stuff. The Chinese are more than happy to make junk to put smiles on our faces. Sadly, we are so stupid we just keep giving them more of our hard earned money.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? As far as I am concerned, most people buy stuff based on price. Until the people refuse to buy the cheapest part, they will keep making cheap junk. Companies are just providing stuff that we want. If you were a company that made good high quality parts, you would sell them at a premium [because they cost more to make]. Soon you would go out of business because buyers would think you are ripping them off.

I do agree with you here, but companies don't provide aluminum because it conducts electricity better.

People more than likely buy parts based on the worth of the truck to them. If it's just a workhorse for the average joe, they might give it the bare minimum to keep running. Whereas my truck, being my daily, gets treated to nicer parts. (Hell I payed for freaking water for the radiator)

Thank you for this thread! Recently my F 350 7.5 was cranking longer before starting. After finding this thread I checked the distributor cap.
Some corrosion present so I cleaned the contacts. The engine started much faster so I have purchased a new brass contact cap and rotor.
Threads like this are most helpful. Sometimes we forget the basics. I've been working on Fords since the 1960's.

Thanks again!!!

Where do you see a vent in the cap as I have not seen any on mine?
If he is going to replace the cap with brass as a test I would drill a hole in the top of the cap to vent and see if that helps?

I used a Blue Streak by Standard cap. Looks the same as my old cap as both have brass contacts, Truck started right up without extra crank time. Easiest repair
I've done in a long time.
