Hacking The Power Locks

Has anyone installed a BullDog remote starter and hooked the locks up to the system? I know a couple of guys have installed aftermarket locks, but I was hoping someone out there had installed one in a truck with the factory locks.

1.) I have the keyless entry option with my power locks so, what type of locks (A, B, or C) does my truck have?

2.) Where is the best place to tie into the wires and what colors are the wires I am looking for?

Thanks!
Matt

My 01 was is type "c" locks, If I remember correctly, I tied in the locks on the driver side firewall area, around the steering colum.
I pretty sure that the wires were: lock-pink/yellow and
unlock: pink/light green. Not sure if they changed for 02.

So you used the extra relay set then? The BD information recommends the driver's side kick panel, but I suspected the harness that runs over the column might be better. I have the starter working fine and I hooked up a power tailgate lock, but I still need to work on the door locks and domelight.

Thanks.

Matt, that is correct, but I'm not sure if the 02's are the same.
I picked the wires up from the bundle by the steering coulum, I figured it was a shorter run than both the kick panels.

Hacking The Power Locks

There's a whole lot more wires here than in the days of the Model 'T' huh Forty?

The directions don't mention the VSM.

If I have type C locks, I have to hook wires up to:
1. Switch side for lock
2. Motor side for lock
3. Switch side for unlock
4. Motor side for unlock

I am a little confused about this because when I look at the '02 wiring details on the BD website, they don't list door locks. The '99-'01 page says type B locks with keyless entry, type C locks without keyless entry. The '99-'01 wire colors are listed as Pnk/Yel (lock) and Pnk/Lt.Grn (unlock).

Now, I also installed the BD Tailgate Lock... it connected to a Red/Orange wire and a Pnk/Blk wire. It locks and unlocks with the doors just fine.

The only way to remote start the 'T' was to send a kid out to crank it.

Thanks for the help!

Matt

Matt
I went to the bulldog site
I believe you need the extra module they sell for the keyless
entry module listed in their wiring diagram
** see note
its some sort of relay module!that they sell!

On your truck at the vsm module connector you have
pin 7- rd/og thats drivers side door actutator motor
pin 8- pnk/og thats pass side door actuator motor

Without see their instructions it is a little confusing
I bet the relay module they sell has diodes in it to prevent
possible problems with the vsm module already on the truck.

Hacking The Power Locks

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-13-03 AT 02:23 PM (EST)]But wait there's more! The Tech guy at BD just called and said that if I had Keyless Entry (I do), I have Type B locks and DO NOT need the extra relay set that Yeti needed for Type C's. The guy said that for an '02, I need to find the Lock wire (Wt/Rd) and the UnLock wire (Blk/Wt) behind the drivers side kick panel.

Do these colors make sense in your schematic?

Check out the Optional Connections section of the instructions below.

Yes those wires are correct!
I would probe them as stated in the optional connections ,but yes
they are the right colors

How are they keeping the voltage from the bulldog security from back feeding into the vss module ? or is there some other connection that they have you do to prevent ?
Don't mind me ,dumb questions

I hope there are diodes in the BD black box for that.

They say the wires are in the kick panel, I have to look a little deeper, but the Parking Brake mechanism is in the way. I will have to look when I get a chance... until then, I'll have to use two remotes... what a pain...

Thanks for the help!

Hey Forty! Do I automatically have the VSM if I have keyless entry? BD said I would need a "Bypass Module 791" to bypass the antitheft system, but since I don't have any factory AntiTheft device option, I hooked it up and the starter part works fine (Thanks Doug!). I am wondering then, do I have the VSM like the truck in the diagram you have. Maybe I don't have it at all.

Matt !
Yes you do if you got remote key pads on the door that came factory and remote keychain pads you have a VSM module ,Thus in reading there info I thought you would need the 791 module.

Chk the colors of your wires at your door switches ,if you have
blk/wht and wht/rd you have a VSM

I'm not sure where the VSM is located or the pats module
but can look in my shop books

No key pads on the door... just keychain remotes. I will pull the switch panel off the door tomorrow and check... it will give me something to do on the drive to work!
