Front Axle Install/Re-install
2006 F250, partial front end rebuild - wheel hubs ball joints, u joints, dust seal and outer vacuum seal - needless to say lots of work...at the point of putting the axles back in after new u joints and new hub seal. My question is putting the wheel hub on and tightening down to specs, for some reason I can't seem to reach the lock ring groove? I used a pick and its not even accessible. The axle itself is either too far seated or the new seal isn't seated all the way? I took it apart and ruined the seal - new parts on the way...I saw on You Tube where leverage was applied to the axle at the axle seal and that pushed the axle out a bit to seat the seal a little further. Is this all that is needed or is there something I might be missing? I have seen the axle seal installed on the axle first then slipped into the knuckle for seating... I did this on both sides and the lock ring is not accessible on both hubs to lock in place? What am I doing wrong?
