Need some help here. When the truck comes to a stop the fuel in the gas tank sloshes around and there is a squeaking noise. I thought it had to do with the tank straps so I took those off, added rubber pieces and reinstalled them. It still squeaks. The tank straps are as tight as they can be. If I am under the truck and push up on the tank the squeak goes away. There is about 1" of vertical movement on the tank towards the front side and not much vertical movement on the rear of the tank. Is the tank supposed to be tight to the bed of the truck? Something tells me it shouldn't be. Do I need to cut down the 4 bolt collars an inch or so, that way the bolts can get tighter?
I didn't want to do something wrong and screw it up. Didn't see any videos explaining any of this either. Thanks for your help!
Yes the tank should NOT move left, right or up and down. Not really tight to the bottom of the truck bed, but tight to the 2 TOP straps. You do have 2 top straps right? If you have any vertical play, then yes you need to (add the top straps) cut down or remove any collars (if they are preventing the strap hdwr from tighten down enough) to hold the tank from having any movement. The bottom straps should be tight against the cross member they bolt too.

Top straps were loose. Got them tightened down and all good now. Thanks for the help. Didn’t want to do something wrong
