See if your insurance company will insure a 550
mine wouldn’t be used it was over 15k gvwr.
and commercial insurance companies wouldn’t insure it if I didn’t have a DOT number associated permits and licenses.
Mine (USAA) won't insure any chassis cab directly but does insure them through Progressive (the same as they do for motorcycles).
The kicker here was that when comparing premiums of a chassis cab 450 versus chassis cab 550 all else being the same the estimated premium quoted was $400/year cheaper for the 550! The representative was unable to tell me why this is the case but we could only guess that there are lower losses associated with the 550 versus the 450.

I'm assuming when you say detuned you are referring to the 6.7 standard output as opposed to the 6.7HO correct? In my case, I'm going 7.3 and don't believe there is a difference on the higher GVWR trucks. As for speed, it was my understanding that trucks sold to a fleet account are governed to a maximum speed but that this is not the case with trucks sold to a retail buyer (guess I'll find out when my truck arrives).
