Hi all,
Hope someone can help. I have a 56 F100 that shakes the steering under braking, sometimes! If I let off and brake again it might be fine, or not.
The tracking was a little toed out so I corrected it and it's worse now, occasionally a wash board road will set it off with no braking at all. But on a smooth road it drives very well at speed no issues.
Original beam axle lowered reverse eye monos, with caster shims.
Every joint shackle and bush replaced, ncluding king pins and drag link. Disc conversion too, discs seem fine too. new shocks.
New power steering box a year ago.
I can't feel any play in it, drives straight, garages local don't know about old stuff, any help much appreciated.
What are you running for tires and rims?
Kind of curious as I just totally rebuilt my stock front suspension. Everything new except the front axle itself. It steers great, pretty much handles great, but sometimes making a left turn or a left lane change I get some shaking especially if into the throttle. Im running a new set of BFG Radial TA's. I ran the same make model tire on my old set up and dont recall having that issue before. The alignment shop tells me my toe in, caster, and camber are all with in spec. But I am not running original bias ply tires either.
Not trying to hi-jack your thread. I am chasing something very simuliar to your problem I think. So I very curious about your issue.
Not sure on shims but they are only about 6mm, don't know what that equates to in degrees.
Any suggestions where to get some?, the last came from mid 50.
