ive got a 76 ranger xlt unsure of motor as it was replaced with a lower mile motor I belive from a 80's lincoln I hear a ticking from the motor which I believe is due a stuck or bad lifter my question is are there any ways to tell for sure or would I have take apart the motor to see also I saw somewhere that the early model lincoln engines had solid lifters instead of hydraulic which would you guys say is better if I end up replacing them just using the truck as a daily driver to and from school/work so it won't be pulling much or be under a heavy load
all i know is its a ford 460 it has ford valve covers possibly from an 80's lincoln I was told the motor had 80k is there anyway to tell like some writing on the block or something
its got a newer exhuast but i noticed a bunch of clamps on it ill double check once I get off and see if I can narrow down where the sounds coming from hopefully nothing is bent can only really hear it at low rpms once it gets up there you can barely hear it
Not sure but I am not finding any Lincolns in the 80's with a 460. First Lincoln I found going backward was a 78 contintental with a 460. Engine valve cover bolts below. The casting number on the heads might narrow down the year, if they haven't been changed.
2 bolts: 239/256/272/292/312 (produced from 1954 to 1964)
after further review i noticed a rocker arm bolt was really loose which explained the sound I was hearing tried to remove it and screw stretched and broke in the arm will be fixing it today and will let yall know if that was my issue or if there's still more to look over
