Yes Tominator; "informed",

I have dealt with a couple of men in my day who didn't shoot me on sight when they should have. They paid dearly for the mistake - that part is not opinion. And I am not a burglar, or a crack addicted career criminal.

And I will say it again: "if you think there is a chance you will NOT shoot to kill WITHOUT HESITATION you should seek an alternative defense." We do not need any more innocent deaths OR guns on the street via home invasion robberies.

Again, an informed opinion - nothing more.

FWIW.

Look at any credible statistics and you will find that resisting with EXTREME PREJUDICE works more times than ANY other response.

Why is it that there is much less crime in rural America than in the cities? More guns equals less crime is the simplistic and accurate response.

As found bt the supreme court, no officer of the law has a legal obligation to defend or protect you or your property from foul play.
I ask then, who will?

My son and daughter were shooting UZIs an AKs at age eight. They KNOW what a firearm is capable of and have no questions. They are loud and destructive. Knowledge and experience prevent accidents.

An armed society is a polite society...

Look at the UK, Australia and Canada to see what banning firearms leads to.

I live on prarie type land where cops don't drive the roads except maybe 1 time a month.

When some kids put a pop bottle bomb in my mailbox, the cops let me go with my suggestion of ventilating my mailbox with a 12 guage instead of doing a major bomb squad scene as would be required of them showing up. This is how my area operates. BTW- The mailbox was duct taped up so nobody knew what was in it before it was opened.

If someone gets into my house- we've got serious problems cause there ain't no law or people around to hear you scream.

And since I've got a survivalist mentality and I like to over prepare.

Most people in my area are deer hunters with 12 guages- therefore I have a FAL with 20 rounds ready to chamber for someone armed with a shotgun at a distance from the house-this was an offshot of having a explosive device installed in my mailbox. Probably chould be put away now since nobody has messed with us in years.

For around the house I can choose from either a .38 snub nose or a 12 guage pump with a folding stock for those tight hallways. The .38 is what you have behind your back when someone weird comes to the door.

I have motion sensing lights all around and 2 big dogs that cruise my yard most of the day when not inside the house.

As for the children in the house, I feel that they are more in danger without the protection. The wife is quite a good shot herself for when I'm away and I do sleep real good at night and don't give much a second thought. I would pop a cap in you in a second if you threatend my family and then let the jury decide if it's justified- which it would be cause I ain't stupid.

The kids are being brought up to use guns- there will be no need for "playing" with guns cause I will always be willing to let them shoot in my presence if they desire. Proper gun handling and respect is #1 lesson.

You people that believe that guns are not needed and that someone would get it away from me or the wife are full of it- cause if I aim at you- you are either backing down or you are toast, plain and simple.

For those of you with small children, I'd recommend the bedside gun safe that my wife and I have. It has a grooved fingerpad in the top that conforms to your hand, and all you have to do is lay your hand on top of it and push the buttons in the right order. I can open it in under a second. Three miskeys renders it unopenable, except by a regular key.

I can't speak for other states, but in Tennessee you may NOT shoot in defense of property. Therefore, if you catch someone breaking into your car and you shoot them you are going to jail (source - CCW class). Deadly force is only authorized under fear for human life. On the other hand, Tennessee law assumes that any intruder is an armed intruder. A neighbor of mine in my old neighborhood killed a burglar who was halfway into his bedroom window by shooting him with a 12 GA to the chest - his body was hanging half in and half out. The police removed the body and thanked him for his time.

You must mean the gunvault. It is nice, they have a 1 gun & 2 gun model. The finger pad is nice. I've had my gun out in the dark in less than 5 seconds from the time my feet hit the floor from the bed.

Glock 21 with laser sight. The dot dancing around in the dark is enough to spook most bad guys. Just knowing the bullet follows the dot is a real deterent. My brother-in-law is on the SWAT team. He says the lasers are no fun. As soon as the bad guys see the dots all over him they usually give it up.

I think your first line of defense is a good watchdog. They have much better senses of hearing, sight and smell than humans. If the barking didn't scare off an intruder at least it would alert you so you could get your gun more quickly.

I have 2 guns primarily for a last line of defense, 9mm pistol with ammo, and a M1 garand, and about 5, 8 rnd 30-06 clips .

I'd be real happy if any one wanted to give me a new S&W 500 for x-mas!

Please focus your question for me a little. Define "use"?

I keep a single shot 410 with 000 buckshot. Simple, i can load it blindfolded and i live in heavly populated street it has enough to do the job but short range. Plus a tried and true bat for the dont have time to get situations. Plus I've talked to all my nieghbors and if they see me running down the street call the police.

Depending on the definition of use. I have used my H-D shotgun twice to detain people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. All was well since they understood that it was a 12ga, it was loaded and I was willing to shoot them if they moved.

Fortunately, I like 95% of people involved in defensive gun uses, have not had to fire a shot yet.

I have not needed to shoot anyone yet, within my home, but I have aimed my shotgun at an intruder, who thought it prudent to depart before entering the window he just opened. I have also pointed my Sig at a perp who was inside my garage, going towards my bench which had dangerous tools on it.. Like a hammer and a wrench, both of which would have used as weapons by the thug who coveted them.

When serving... I have used a rifle on full auto to repel invaders entering my space, but that probably is not quite what you meant, huh.

I've got a 120 pound all black German Shephard for downstairs and a sawed off shotty pump upstairs. Doesn't hurt to keep a cheap unregistered pistol either if you all know what I mean!
