My First Post

I have a 1992 351w F-150 that I bought a couple months ago. I have been watching this forum for a few years now but I finally joined to ask a question about some vibrations I have been getting in my truck. They only used to happen between 65-70 but now they have been starting around 55 and continuing to 70. Anyone have any ideas. (This is my truck btw)

Welcome to FTE.

Drive shaft.

Inspect every rotating component of your drive train.

I said drive shaft as they do wear out and you can't always tell if the u-joints are bad without taking them apart.

But like I said, you have to inspect everything. Tires lumpy, wheels bent or dinged, drive shaft dinged or loose u-joints.

Alingment off, parts showing wear, tires wearing funny, slop in steering.....

All that stuff can give you a "vibration" at one speed or another.

I'm not sure how to directly respond to your message

Thanks for the tip! I've replaced the tie rods and put in a new steering box. My steering is tight now so I don't think that is a problem. The driveshaft would make sense. I went under my truck and tried to wiggle it. The only spot there was play in as where it connected to the transfer case. It went up down and around about 1/8-1/4 of an inch. Is that a problem or is that normal wear. Also there are some minor lumps in my sidewall but I can't even see them I can only feel them. Could that be it too? Thanks.

1/8th to 1/4 is a problem.

When you replaced the front end parts, did you have it aligned by a shop?

Lumps in the sidewall. Has the tire always had the lumps? If the lumps are new, replace the tire.

I took it to Les Schwab for the alignment

I bought the truck a few months ago so I wouldn't know. But the lumps really aren't all that visible. The tires have almost no tread wear and no dry rot but they are a few years old. I think the truck was sitting for a while, and the bumps might be from sitting at a lower tire pressure for a while.

Thanks for your help.

Rear sway bar

Could the rear sway bar cause the vibration? There is a loose bushing connecting it to the rear axle it moves like 1/16 of an inch when I wiggle it.

Sway bar may rattle but won't cause a speed related vibration.

Rotating parts is the focus for speed related vibrations.

Check the date code on the tires.

The vibration is more than just a rattle. (Although it does plenty of that too lol) The tires are 5 years old.
