Looking for advice on jump packs / jump starters / portable jump starters capable of starting our diesel pick-ups. I do a lot of camping in cold weather and there's always the worry of the truck not starting after sitting for (often) a week in very cold temps. Currently I carry a small generator for emergency situations allowing me to re-charge batteries if they were to get drained down, however wondering if a portable jump pack would do the job. Any recommendations or relevant experience?
I've had good results with this unit, though I have not had to start the truck with totally dead batteries.
Just used this last night to get my daughter's subaru going. Throw it on the seat to recharge from the power port overnight and it's ready for the next use.
I've got a Noco, I'll have to check the model #. Never had to start my truck with it but it's started plenty of gas powered vehicles and my diesel tractor with no problem.
We have some Noco’s at work and they seem to do well. I have been looking for a jump starter with air compressor combo. Watch for watt hours of the battery. Some say they have a billion amps but don’t have any battery reserve so they are not worth much.
That one looks like a beast - used to start engines much bigger than ours. I would think that one would get the job done for you and then some. Plenty of good reviews on it as well.
I got one from where I work as an employee incentive years ago. Twice as thick as my phone otherwise at about the same dimensions it's a tiny sucker, but surprisingly dense weight wise. I've started many 4clyinder gas engines with it and my parents 35 year old lawnmower with the very dead original battery they always jump to start countless times for a entire year. Lithium jump packs are crazy good, I'm sold. I only charged it twice in the past 8 or 9 years and it still shows a full charge. Tho I've never tried to start the 7.3 with it, and most the gas engines topped out in 2point blah cubes other than my Vette that one time.
My advice, get one. If nothing else you can use the USB outlet on them to charge your phone to call a wrecker
I bought the big one from Noco, I’ve used it on a lot of things with no issues. I haven’t tried the 7.3 yet but it claims it’s good up to an 8.0 L diesel an a 10 L gas. I went big since I also go off-roading with a winch and no cell service.
back when I was riding solo on my motorcycle a lot, I subscribed to "HotSpot", very expensive but they were about the cheapest around...
it would let me preprogram two messages only.
not good, I chose "I am okay, going to bed"
and
" I need help, send a tow truck to this Lat/Long location"
it did offer 10 minute chicken tracks, so my family could follow me,
if the tracks moved, I was okay, if they stopped, and my cellphone did not work, they got worried....

I swung for the big Fanttik a few months ago. T8 Max I think, supposed to be good for completely dead 8.0L diesel. Unlikely to ever have completely dead batteries, but I figured between the F-250 and F-100 it would be good idea to have a little overkill on cranking amps. Haven't had to use it yet, but the 250 has been sitting parked at my parent's house for a few weeks, so possibly will soon.
