Got a few questions for you PDS guys. I am getting tired of poor gas mileage from my 76 HB 390 and I think its time for me to step up to a newer PSD. I am going to have about $15k to play with and of course the Ford PSD is my first choice.
I am shopping around for a 95 to 99 F250 4x4 Extra cab PSD.
First off I would like to know if there is any year that I should stay away from?
What year did Ford start to intercool the PDS?
What is the difference between the HD and the normal duty?
What year did Ford add the 3rd door to the F250 extra cab? (I have kids)
I plan to have this truck for as long as its cost effective to drive so I will be investing lots of money over the years to build it up starting with gauges, exhaust, intake, chip, and some AT trans upgrades, and eventually a lift.
Is there anything that you guys can suggest as for what year, mileage, and things to look for on a PSD in this year range?
We will be toeing a good sized trailer loaded with quads, bikes, and equipment and I would also like to add a camper as well.
Any help, or suggestions would be very helpful. .
Thank you,
Brad
I'm looking for a new truck similar to your requirements. Boy, the 99's seem interesting. The rear seats have doors that open and I believe there are a couple of air bags for safety too. My 97 is great but we cannot fit the entire familt into the standard cab! Nobody wants to ride in the 98 on long trips anymore!
With the 4:10 rear we towed all of our belongings across country last winter. The truck loved it, all 18000 pounds!
If you can find a '99...that would be a good choice. Intercooler, better injection system, more power, stronger frame, better mirrors, etc. There were a host of major changes starting model year '99.
