Hey everyone it's been awhile since I been here anyway my 03 super crew 5.4 with the electric 4x4 switch has broken the shift fork in the front diff transfer case functions perfect vacuum works perfect the actuator slides in and out just fine but there is no front engagement the 2 low is kinda cool around the yard but that's it. I have been studying the engagement system on the front diff for about 2 hours now I got the plastic chunks out and I pulled the fork and actuator removed the vacuum lines and capped the solenoids my theory is I'm going to slide the coupler over the other shaft to engage and give it a couple little stitch welds to keep full time engagement plug the hole the fork rod went through and be done with vacuum and plastic forks and just rely on the transfer case switch. My only question is will this affect my transfer case other than shifting into 4high on the go probably wouldn't be a good idea but in theory all it's going to do is spin the front end full time like the 96-02 dodge solid axles and I'm ok with that but I'm wondering if it will affect my transfer case?
Some with some knowledge please share with me I grew up driving 70's Ford's and I've found all this scientific electronic vacuum stuff to be a little overwhelming I mean I used to weld both my diffs and just keep my front drive shaft behind the seat until I hit dirt and I could change my air fuel mixture idle speed timing all with a flathead and a 6 pack now it appears I need a fancy computer just so the engine can tell I let it have a little more oxygen
