cross over steering (again)
Here is what i am thinking about doing. I have 8" of lift right now, but i want to go to 10 or 10.5. I will do this by using either a superlift 2" hanger or a bds 2.5" hanger for the front. I will be replacing the rear springs.
So, seeing that off-roading isn't an issue. Is X-over steering NEEDED? By the way, please don't just say yes or no.. i am really curious for some reasons as to why.
I want to do this lift set-up by the summer, we will just see about money(i have yet to find that money tree
). In the future i would like to switch out to cross over steering, however i will be at the new height for a while before i can afford that. Remember i am not doing anything soon(unfortunatly) but i just wanted some feedback from you guys who run big lifts or have experience in this. Thanks a million.
It does reduce the angle of the drag link and the stress on the sector shaft.
FWIW, a couple of guys that I know run x-over on their 8" lifts and it made their steering a lot easier.....they like it a lot.
I've seen quite a few guys with over 8" suspension lifts run w/o it and not have any problems.......also heard of some that have snapped of the sector shaft (I think one guy has broken 2 and working on number 3 right now still with no x-over
). Also, heard of trucks with 4" and 6" lifts breaking the sector shaft.Just my $.02
When x-over is installed, do most of those kits have the trac bar relocations with them to keep the angles the same?
The x-over setups that I have seen do not include the trac bar relocation........the companies sell the trac bar relocation as a separate "kit".
The only one that I know comes with both is the entire Dynatrac kit.....but that includes a whole bunch of other stuff too.
Hope this helps.
