I have gone over the available parts diagrams and associated text documents for hours and cannot locate my exact truck. I have two tanks. One at the back above the spare tire, and one on the drivers frame rail. The truck is a Build Date 1977, single cab, 2wd, F250 Custom. I do not know if I have emissions stuff on the tanks. My factory gas caps are attached and I believe them to be VENTED. As such, I don't believe there is any evap emissions on this truck. Anyway, I need a new tank for the back AND sending unit, and I need a new sending unit for the midship tank.
MIDSHIP TANK: D3TZ 9002-B or D6TZ 9002-D
Depends on if I am before or after Ser. 060,000 and I don't know if I am or not.
Vin ends in X85281 SENDER: ???
AFT AXLE
I cannot find exactly the truck in the list for the rear aft axle tank. TANK: ???
SENDER: ???
You need to look under the truck at your gas fill tube. If you have a fill gas vent on the front or rear next to main fill tube. You need to shop for a tank that matches yours.
I have a non eec truck. The tanks have no vents on top of the tank. I don't need tanks just yet, Mostly the senders. I'll just get them from LMC. Somehow, they have managed to condense two pages and 200 tank variations into FOUR...so, that seems safe enough.
I just wanted to get the OEM part numbers, but they don't seem to be listed in the Ford parts books.
I believe 5851 was referring to the “fill vent“ and not the tank EVAP vent.
This is the big one that is attached to the filler neck and serves to shut off the fuel pump when filling.
Often times the location of this fill vent (front or back of the actual fill neck) helps determine which type of tank you need.
Sometimes…
Up until ‘77 some heavier rated trucks were still being shipped without the charcoal canister venting system. So your truck may very well be equipped with fully vented gas cap like pre-smog versions.
Unfortunately, Ford decided to use tanks with multiple filler locations. So getting the right one is fairly critical unless you’re very clever at mocking up new tubing.
You used to be able to order from Advance Auto Parts or O'Rielly's. They would open the box and check when you picked up. If it was labeled wrong, you got the other number. Price would be more than RA, but cheaper in the long run and paying half the shipping. RA has horrible return policies now and no humans to talk to and horrible shipping charges. Your choice.

I have found that most auto parts houses sell the same Chinese junk as RA except for 50% more. RA is the way to go for me if I know what I need. For this, I’ll try somewhere else. I’ve had to send stuff back to RA due to damage and once I did that one time, they refused to ship it a second time. Lol.
