I need help!

I bought a 97 F150 xl 4.2 standard 4 by 2a couple of months ago and I have been blowing fuse number 5 ac clutch/revers lights and somthing else. I think I pinpointed it down to the revers lights but I dont have alot of time to spend all day looking. I looked in the back at the conector for the lights and found an odd dark green wire that had been taken out of the platic harness and taped off. I checked the connector and there was no dark green wires. It looks factory but kind of suspisious. If any one can tell me what this wire is for or or if you have the same thing and where should I start to look for this short.

Thanks

I don't have a diagram for that year, but there are some things you can check. You could unplug the rear light connector, and then see if the fuse still blows. That might narrow the problem down. If it still blows, I would look to see if your reverse light switch is mounted on the side of the tranny. If it is, inspect the wiring going up to the firewall. Somebody may have changed transmssions and or the motor, and pinched a wire somewhere.
