I want to gather info on bed covers. I have seen the single piece Tonneau covers, and others that come in 3 pieces. There are also the fabric ocvers. I'm wondering what your experiences are with covers, the good and the bad.
Thanks.
I have a soft fold Tonno pro on a 12. It is easy to fold with just 2 clamps at rear and front. Good in horrible wind and rain in S.D. once at 80mph. Thats the speed limit on interstate. Easier to remove with 2 people and takes a bit of space along garage wall when off but not much depth. Only removed it once since have owned. It's well laid out design. As far as longevity, my truck sits in a garage. Only bought to pull camper, now that's gone it pretty much sets inside all the time.
I have a one piece "Undercover" #2090 cover on my '07 Flare -side, I love it. It's easy to remove, weighs 54 pounds so Wife can help, it can be hung on a wall. It is strong enough to walk on. A few years ago I made a strong cargo net to keep gas cans, groceries, etc in the rear 18"-20" nearest the tailgate. The truck had a rollup type "Truxedo Low Pro QT" cover when I bought it, easy to roll up and even take off as desired.
For my '77 long bed, I've cut my wood, but haven't finished what I intend to be a easy to remove (and lay pcs in bed if needed, like if getting something at Lowe's, etc), "bed liner coated" wooden cover pieces (4), strong enough to walk on (will add ling brace down center line) if needed / lay a cabinet or other item on to be strapped down. I don't intend it to be water tight, I'll mostly use it to support a water proof fabric type truck cover and look OK if left on for drives (after we remove the full cover). Any water from rain, etc will just gather in the bed liner to run out the back. It will be a good enough fit that leaves and etc shouldn't find a way in.
I have purchased two from Craftec Covers, and have been thoroughly pleased. Most importantly, you can call and speak to a very sweet lady who will get info, and get right back with you within a day! She gives you her cell number to send pictures of the bed and some measurements, and the product you receive will fit perfect. I highly recommend this company!!!

Looked @ Ford Hatch-Style Bed Covers | Craftec Covers just today, nice. If I can come up with a way to use one with my toolbox that allows me to pull the release handles to get it the toolbox with the cover in place, might be a way to go. I've measured, and my handles swing out to about 1-1/2". No real tools will go in the toolbox as my tool kit and jack, etc are behind the seats in storage, mostly for just extra storage for items often placed around passenger's feet like groceries, maybe a small cooler, etc.
