6.9 IDI Stalling

I've had a 1984 F-250 6.9idi 4-speed manual with roughly 93K on it for over two years (stored outside in Ohio). Currently, it cranks for 6-10 seconds, then starts but only runs for 10 seconds or so before it stalls. Its backstory is that it ran great up until 6 months ago or so. The only issue that I had sometimes and researched was it would start right up, then stall and I'd have to crank for 6 seconds or so and it would finally start which from the research I did, makes me think air is slowly bleeding in somewhere leading the fuel to drain back to the tank.

The last couple of months it has gotten worse but it started where I would be driving along and shift into 3rd, then 4th and the engine would almost go quiet like it was idled all of a sudden but never stall. With the accelerator pressed to the floor after 4 or 5 seconds, it would "catch up" and slowly speed up. During that time I noticed at lower rpm when going slow the engine would sometimes change rpm even with the accelerator kept steady. Fast forward to last week, I went out to start it and it does what I mentioned at the beginning. Cranking seems to be good and the water-in-fuel light has never come on to my knowledge. It seems to have the same issue on both tanks when I switch back and forth. Wondering if the fuel has gelled up and if so could that be fixed with additives or does the fuel filter/lines need to be replaced or cleaned? Also thought about the fuel pump or injectors? Sorry for the long spew but would love to hear anybody's thoughts on what to look at and ideas to try. Thanks!

welcome to FTE.
those symptoms are signs of air intrusion letting the fuel in the filter drain back to the tank. quick way to tell: remove filter on cold engine. if it is not full to the top you have air intrusion. the fix is a return line kit and new o-rings under the injector caps.
what happens is the engine fires off the fuel in tje lines and injector pump. then the injector pump "runs out of fuel" while the lift pump refills the filter and pump.
