Engine swap help

So some quick background, I have an old 1970 F-350 1ton that needs a bunch of work on it. From what I have been told is the stock 390 is a solid engine and will pass everything but a gas station I’m wondering if there is a better motor that I could put in to give it more power and a little bit more towing capacity as well as just updating it and making it more efficient, whether it be a better motor or a better diesel motor. I’m kind of new to needing to put a new motor into a vehicle and I don’t know what I should do. I’m thinking that I want to swap it with a Cummins 6BT. but I don’t know if there would be any fitment issues or if there is a better engine that would achieve the same horsepower as it

A lot will depend on what you are going to use the truck for, how much you want to spend and how much time do you have to work on it.

Here you go, I haven’t done the swap on a f350 but this guy has. If I remember correctly you will encounter clearance issues with front suspension which might necessitates a body lift. Maybe start by reading this thread (it’s long) and read other build threads so you can see in advance how to handle the swap.
