They are out there. Just getting harder to find. And you have to fight people like me also looking. I don't mind a project rig, but prefer turn-key. I've bought 2 Excursions that I'd rate as nearly pristine. One at 87k miles and my current at 298k miles. My most recent I found scrolling facebook marketplace. A local-ish Ford dealership had just posted it that morning. In less than 30 minutes I had gathered up the wife and went and bought it.
It's the same situation when you try to buy a nice used late model Suburban. They either sell immediately, or are so overpriced they site for 30-60 days until the Dealership drops the price to reasonable levels...then sells immediately. My 2017 Burb was like that. They dropped the price and I was there within an hour to buy. Had 3 other people trying to buy while I was finalizing the paperwork. Large family vehicles that are nice condition are hard to find.
It also heavily depends on location and motor. I'm down in GA. All the Diesel bro's buy anything with an oil burner and then rag them out. You cannot wait when any nice Diesel (any brand) pops on the market. The Squatty Potty crowd will ****** and destroy it. So be prepared to buy at the drop of a hat.
Mine, a 2001 w/ 7.3 showed well, paid $14,500 4 years ago. Even after having a Ford dealer check it out, it was in horrible shape with oil leaks etc. The risk you take buying a used vehicle 1500 miles away. After adding another $30K I have a decent truck. Still needs a few more things but most of it's done. Bottom line, unless you're very lucky, you're gonna be into it at least $30-40K if you want it real nice!
