Got a 2000 Excursion with 179,400 miles on it with the v10. It has developed a ticking noise seemingly after it warms up. Doesn’t seem to be in the front belt system, and it has just gotten new spark plugs and coils 2000 miles ago. Any thoughts would be good. Video should be below.
Check the spark plugs to ensure they are still tight. Best practice seems to be torquing them from 23 to 28 ft/lbs to prevent a plug blowout.
The other common ticking cause is broken exhaust manifold studs, easy to count them to see how many are broken and missing.
Many years ago I spent the month of September under my Excursion,
with a right angle air drill, and left hand drill bits from Fastenal.
Just removing and drilling broken off studs,
but I got it done!
