tonnage question

I recently purchased a 1964 F100 4speed w/ 4 speed T98 trans. The door tag says 5000 GVW, and the rear has 10 leaf springs. My question is how is this truck rated. 1/2ton,3/4ton,1ton or what. I am confused. Thanks in advance.

To be sure it's an F100 it will have F10 as 1st 3 characters of vin. That would make it a 1/2 ton
At one time the 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton classifications more closely referred to payload capacities.

Wow, 10 leafs in the back sure make it stiff. Wonder how many leafs a 3/4 ton have?

I would suspect the springs were changed at some point but don't know what was original to the F100 as I own an F250. Maybe 5-7 originally for the half ton? My 3/4 ton has 10 leaves plus 5 helper springs.
