Okay, I really try to not ask questions I can find the answers to easily, but here’s one I’d like to ask to get some feed back with real life experiences.
I'm in need of a set of new tires on the steering axle. I have an alignment issue that I need addressed and know the alignment shop won’t touch anything until the tires are good.
I have a new set of Michelins on the drive axle that were on the truck when I bought it, and would like to match the steering to, but sweet Jesus they really love Michelins.
is there a good tire out there anyone can recommend that won’t cause a guy to take a second mortgage out to get that also has decent wear ratings?
I don’t mind spending $$ on quality, but there’s a limit to what I can spend also, especially not knowing what the alignment shop is going to say is the cause of the wear on the current set of steering tires.
Like most everything tires are stupid expensive anymore. Mix and match.....nah...you only need 2, so Id go and get two more Mich's. Another option is to compare prices on the likes of discount tire os somewhere like that and see just how much more top quality are or less cheap tires are.
I just put 2 Sailun tires on the front of our truck (245/75/17) and to this point for the price they are the best thing I've ever done. I put 4 Firestone Transforce HT2 tires on the rear last year and they were the worst set of tires I've ever put on a truck. Our DRW was all over the road. This was not our first set of HT Firestone tires but the first and last HT2 tires.

learned the mix and match lesson with my motorcycle. Had mismatched tires when I bought it as well. But damn I wish the last owner would have either picked a less expensive pair to put on the drivers or bought all 4.
Just remembered when I was driving semi’s a lifetime ago, steering tires were never matched to the drivers, but need to remember, this is a pick up not a tractor trailer, there’s a difference.
I have to add this RE the Saluns. I bought and a Jeep wagon several months ago and put new Salun A/T tires on it. The guy who bought it from me destroyed one, and that same tire is back ordered across the US. This is not the first time Ive experienced some of the off brands like Salun this take place. I'm not complaining about the tires at all, but availability can be spotty.
