Hey everyone hope you're doing well. 1989 F350 Dually 7.3 for the record.
I've been working on my drum brakes for a bit now, and the right-side passenger drum is absolutely stuck on. I made a couple of bad decisions that made it extremely difficult to take it off when I was trying to diagnose it myself. (I unscrewed the wheel cylinder thing from behind, broke the pins/screws that hold in the shoes, which also held a spring that the release lever thing was held on by so trying to loosen the pads doesn't really work.)
It looks like I'll need to break or cut off the drum and replace it with a new one to get to the assembly. Thankfully, one side has been removed, and I can redo the brake assembly on it.
However, I cannot find a replacement drum for the life of me. I don't even know what rear axle I truly have because I keep seeing very similar setups, but none that match mine. And any similar parts I find are just off by a little bit.
Can anyone please help me identify what rear axle setup I have? I may have someone else come by to see if they can remove it, but it's not looking likely.
Any help would be appreciated. I've seen similarities between the Dana 70HD and the Chevy 14 bolt FF, Dana 60, etc; I just can't find a match. Says 13.09 max diameter, I believe, on it
Look at the center casting on any of the reinforcement casting ribs for a number. Dana was pretty good about casting in the model number somewhere. It LOOKS like a 70 to me, but I am only one man with one opinion.
The cover LOOKS in the pictures to be too short height wise to be an 80, and I don't think Ford would have installed a 60 in a dually (although I assumed they were all Sterling 10.25s until 1999 when they went to the D80 in the dually pickups anyway). It might not be a factory install.
Yeah. On one of the corners it has "153 77" on it, and then on the tag on one of the nuts I think says "411" and "411" below it (or 411 441), but it is really really hard to tell so I'm not sure. But I'll start looking around at Dana 80's cause I haven't checked for those yet.
EDIT: also yeah, definitely not factory, this guy put some work on this thing cause its 4x4 and gear vendor etc

I didn’t read anything about that you removed the spindle nut to slide the hub off the axle, did you do that?
Yeah I should’ve said that but yeah I removed everything necessary to get it out. It’s just still stuck at the top somewhere. I can wiggle the sides. But yeah axel pulled and all that

It's definitely not an 80. The cover, while similarly shaped, is easily distinguishable from a 60/70 just from the width/height ratio.
Well if it rotated before you cut everything loose then the small front bearing or large back bearing could be stuck on the spindle.
could try bolting the wheel back on to help you get the hub off. It’s just a little more leverage wiggling the hub back and forth or you can get behind it a wack it with a hammer.
