looks like the bracket holding orginal radio AND heater controls wont even fit a single din stereo.
bracket has to extensively modded to point it will have 1mm of metal left either side to give it some rigiidty from below , otherwise its just flopping around from top 2 screws above htr controls.

Dont tell me i have to buy a $100 install kit for this too?
My truck was modified by the PO to have a big hacked out hole with the stereo just sitting in the hole. Your nicer options are:
1. Put things back to factory with an un-hacked bracket and un-hacked dash surround, then buy a retro style stereo that supports bluetooth or whatever modern features you like.
2. Buy some sort of mounting kit, I saw one on ebay for less than $100, but I don't know what's good.
3. I filled in the hacked hole with a single row rocker switch panel and then plan to install a UTV/Boat radio that fits the interface in a rocker switch form factor and allows bluetooth.
Part of the reason for getting a pre fuel injection truck is simplicity
I rather despise new technology with all the caveats it comes with.
I was born in 69, and raised in a house with 1959 fridge in the basement that probly still runs to this day.
Contrary that with 2018 fridges that start faillin soon after the warranty, sometimes withing a few months.
Or this brand new tV bought in january and was dead when i returned from 3 month work trip despite being turned off and unplugged whole time.
it was bought witha amazon acct i closed cuz i only opened it to shop during covid, so i got zero warranty on it.
I dont want hard to find or expensive replacement parts
The simplest solution then is to get a radio delete dash bezel and not have a stereo. I'm pretty happy with Bluetooth earbuds and my phone, but the legality of that varies based on your location.
I already bought a single Din kenwood Cd player, with Sirius xm, Fm AND so i can play all my CDs and Mp3s from late 90s and 2000s. Am /fm only is too old school for me and bluetooth retro setups are too expensive and require one to use his phone anyways and i hate smartphones as it is.
ordered a plate off ebay, only 17 usd, free shipping. lets hope its not a scam and turns into a credit card fiasco
I had to customize the opening but it was easy and the stereo is snug. I had to remove the metal tabs where the original stereo ***** came through and there is plenty of space behind the stereo if you needed to add a metal strap for support but my cd player is very light and a strap wasn’t needed. Also took a piece of black plastic and trimmed it to fit the opening and that’s what my mounting bracket sleeve that holds the stereo is mounted to. The tabs on the mounting sleeve are also bent to secure it to the plastic and metal of the truck to hold the cd player in place nice and snug.
Curious to get some pictures and feedback on that plate once you get it in hand and install it. Please share pics and your experience. I'm in need of similar and hoping to learn from you
i did similar as tugboat 76. trimmed the mounting bracket, filed to fit in order to leave as much bracket material as possible. fitment is snug and solid, looks like it belongs as well.
