I'm having trouble sliding the shock over the bolts that fasten the lower mounting bracket. I've lowered it as far I can to allow for the lenght of the shock. Wondering now if I have the incorrect shock for the truck. I bought the 24-013284 B6 4600 and the box it came in indicates that. However, in looking at the shock etcing- it indicates 122722 1328 H3. There is no 4 after the 1328 but the H3 instead. I don't want to start removing one of the bracket bolts to make room to slide the shock thru if I have the incorrect shock from what the box indicates. Is this normal to have to remove one of the bracket bolts to fit the shock ? Any advice would be appreciated
It's a 2 WD. I'm unable to confirm if the actual shock is the correct one just yet . However, the box it came in indicates the correct shock for a 2WD. I did have to cut the top bolt off of the existing shock because it was stripped so I didnt notice if the exsiting one would have had the same issue with removal. I did measure the old one and the new one and they are botgh right at 18 inches long. So, now I'm wondering if removing obne of the shock mount bolts for clearance was necesary with the existing shock that was there......... I've sent an email to Bilstein but I doubt I will hear back on the question of if this shock labeled 1328 h3 instead of 13284 is the correct shofk. I'm concerned it doesnt match whats on the box. Both of them....
Your axle doesn't hang down any farther? I'm not sure about 2wd, but 4X4 has plenty of extra room, the axle even needs to be jacked up a little for the bolt to go in.
Dumb q. You disconnected the coil spring from the top of the tower right?
I did not do loosen the spring faster as I did'nt think I would need to but now I'm going to try that now that l I have axle lowered and tension off the springs. I really thought it was a low as it could go already. Thanks for the time you spent taking photos. I have exactly what you have - same box and same etched #s.
I googled the 24-013284 and it indicates 2wd as well as 4wd. Are you referencing 24-13284 on your search or the 1328 H3 etched ? I checked Amazon Bilstein where I bought them last year and as well as shock warehouse that indicates both 4wd and 2wd. Not sure what to think now that you mention what you saw.

on the shock ?
I googled the etched number shortly after that response and even the etched number, first result summit racing indicates it's for 2WD.
The other thing you can try is... With the shock out, compress it using the ground. Then while it's compressed, quickly transport it into the space. Slip the top into the mount and quickly slide the bottom into the mount on the bottom. Quickly slip a thin screw driver through the hole to get it in place. Then you can slowly ease it out while easing the bolt in and it should keep it in place. I haven't done mine yet. My mount looks like potato chips and probably needs to be replaced but I really don't want to grind out the rivets AND disconnect the brake lines. So I will probably just clean the mount and seal it. Then install my shocks and new coil springs.
Thanks for checking as well. I did initially try to compress it but I won't budge .. I don't think I can compress it anymore. I will give a shot tomorrow.

You probably don't want to but pull it out and set it on the ground and give it one good press using gravity. It will certainly go down. That should prime it and give you the ability to try it. Much easier than pushing up on the bottom with little if anything to lift.
Alternatively, a pry bar or cats paw may help you get it into place
