before top dead center is where you set the timing to fire so you get the most complete burn. ford trucks usually run somewhere around 10 btdc. if your truck is stock the sticker under the hood tells you based on your engine and trans setup what to set at. the pointer should be sitting on top of that harmonic balancer attached to the timing cover below water pump. your other post shows it
