I will just guess that Moisture infiltration due to rust is a huge problem here in Ice/snow/salt/Calcium Chloride parts of the world.
Sodium batteries were used in the space programs decades ago........... IMHO, you have to be nuts to look at anything like that for consumer use.... sodium violently explodes if exposed to the air!
Sodium ion batteries have been around for some time now and in limited numbers have been used in some proof of concept prototypes.
Chinese players like CATL and BYD have been going at it for some time, but I don't think anyone has come close to marketing a viable mass production product with it, never mind fast recharging variants.
