94 F350 460 If I jump the pressure regulator switch off of the accumulator should the compressor clutch come on as strong as if the system was full of refrigerant and cycling normal.
Right now the system is completely empty except for 8oz of pag46.
Vac down and gas it up. 38oz[/QUOTE
should the clutch engage just as strong with jumper and system empty, or does the clutch engage differently with no refrigerant.
I tested the compressor with the jumper on and the clutch engaged but seemed very weak.
Opinions vary, mine is why waste time with questionable parts unless you have receipts of their age? An entirely NEW system runs sub $500 installed (DIY). Truck is 30 years old.
If the clutch is weak, to me I would just amass parts and swap over a good weekend. I suppose you could check voltage here and there if you see fit, which would take five minutes.

What is your time worth?
my thoughts exactly…chasin and wastin sucks. Nickle and diming adds up to paper fast.
system is all new except for the compressor that worked before parking the truck for 5yrs.
