Ball joint

I found a upper ball joint that supposedly fits a 1972-1976 Ranger but NOT a 1971 !!! Is this a TYPE'O .
Why would it not fit a 1971 Ranger ,

Until 1982, the term Ranger was used as a trim level designator for the F-series F-100 etc. In 1982, a new model small pickup Ranger came out with nothing to do with the F-series.
