I just bought a 1992 ford f250 with a 5.8L engine, but it had the engine replaced with one from a 95 5.8L. The egr valve is not working. I replaced it with a new one. But it's still not working. My question is could it be the computer due to swapping out the engine? Thank you in advance.
Yes, it's giving out egr code. I'm not sure if the prior engine had an egr valve. That's why I was thinking maybe it had to have the 95 ecm. Thank you for your reply.
Your 1992 model year truck/engine combination had an EGR valve from the factory. It also had a gray/white EGR Valve Position (EVP) sensor on top of it.

What code number are you seeing? Is there a vacuum line running between the EGR valve and the EVR solenoid under the coil?

Short answer is no but you could have a bit of a mess on your hands given it's unknown exactly how the engine swap was acomplished. How does the engine run besides setting an EGR code? The correct way to do an engine swap like this is to only use the engine wiring and PCM that was originally in the truck, that ensures there are no wiring incompatabilities which are a certainty if wiring portions from different years are mixed. The computer connector pinouts are the same for all years with the SD EFI system but there is a possibility a '95 truck was MAF, a computer from that system would not be compatible with you truck at all while the SD versions all used the same EGR system so a computer swap likely would make no difference.
