Well, by God, she has served me well, but I am starting to wonder in I'm just stuck in the "ol "sunk cost fallacy".
Long story, Long.
1996 Ford F350 - 7.3 Power stroke Automatic - Dooley 2 WD 270,000 Miles - 2 door.
Originally purchased in 1999 as a cab and chassis. Used hard in my Landscape business as the main vehicle for 20 years. I had a massive dump hoist installed as well as a Flatbed. This thing can dump boulders.
Sold my business and slowly started to fix up the somewhat neglected truck.. I had a vision to remove the hoist and badly rusted Flatbed and make it a pretty boy project truck.
The Good;
Strong engine - no leaks - no burning oil
Transmission in great shape
Lots of life left.....if resurrected
New front end - new front brakes - Tie-rods-Ball Joints
New Tires
Fluids and Filters all good.
New Water Pump
New ICP sensor
The Bad;
Front Cross member detached from frame on drivers side.
Past frame Crack nearby, which was beautifully welded over 15 years ago is showing a fault again.
Currently getting a "hot no start"
Slow Power steering fluid leak
Needs a blower motor - smells like a grass fire if heater turned on
Possible issue with fule bowl heater - FUSE 22 (20 amp) blows and sounds like a gunshot - just by turning key to "wait to start" position
Rear fuel tank "shut down" years ago - leak - have just been using front
Busted Fly window
Interior is decent - missing driver interior door panel.
I know it sounds like a lot...But is it? I listed it online for $3500 as is and got crickets.
I know that by putting 2k into "stuff" I can increase its value significantly. But I'm Broke and need advice on if I'm crazy to keep trying. The 7.3 and the Dump hoist which that alone is a $5000 piece of equipment (new) have me fuming when LKQ offers me $700 for the truck.
To me that is a parts truck. You would probably get more for it by yanking everything and selling it separately and being 2wd limits the stuff you have to sell. Basically you have a engine and 2wd trans and some body/interior parts. I myself would put nothing into that truck. *disclaimer*This is all my opinion and does not reflect the opinion of the FTC forum members or their associates.
Everything is made of gold when you buy from the LKQ mega-monopoly, but they don't pay for squat.
Edit: Do a search on some local salvage sites for their engine, etc, prices to compare against LKQ prices. Might help you decide whether to scrap or part out.
